Chapter Seven

I debate for several heartbeats about following Vance's order to go to my room.

Fuck it. I'm only a human and not a creature from hell. Whatever they are dealing with will most likely be putting me way over my head.

I walk into what has been my room for about ten minutes, shutting the door on the crashing and shouts. The second the door clicks shut the room is silent.

Soundproof? Why the hell are their rooms soundproof?

Deciding I don't want to think about it, I grab one of my bags and start unpacking.

I unpack the first bag quickly, and am moving to the second when a cracking sound comes from one of my windows. I frown as I look towards the window and see a spider-web crack covering the window. A chill runs down my spine as I watch the crack. Within seconds a thick, oily, black smoke creeps through the cracks and into my room.

I immediately drop my bag back on the bed and walk back towards the door, my heart hammering in my chest as I stare at the smoke, not willing to take my eyes off it until I'm out of here.

My back hits the door and I reach behind me, frantically feeling around for the doorknob. I want to sob with relief when my hand closes around the handle. The smoke shifts as it enters further into my room, starting to take shape. Before it can take shape completely, I open the door and run through the hallway toward the sound of fighting and shit breaking.

I would much rather have the guys around me if shit goes down than be stuck alone with whatever the hell that thing in my room was.

Entering the main room, I gape at the destruction. Nearly everything is broken or burned to some degree. Shockingly, no fire has spread through the house, so at least it was contained, I guess.

There's even a person shaped hole through the wall by the kitchen. Jesus. How strong do these things have to be to throw someone through a wall?

I hear a grunt from beside me and see Elijah with his fist through something's chest. Elijah removes his hand, moves a couple steps to the side and the thing crumbles to the floor. My eyes widen as a gasp leaves my throat.

Holy shit.

Elijah looks up at me and scowls. "What the hell are you doing in here? You should have stayed in your room!" Something comes barreling into him, pushing his body against the wall. A grunt leaves Elijah's lips as he reaches back and punches the thing in what I think is the face several times before it finally drops to the floor. Dead or unconscious, I don't know.

Elijah moves to me, grabbing my arm and pulling me behind him as this time he's faced with someone that looks like just a normal human. Well, if humans had razor sharp teeth and black scaled wings on their backs. "Why the hell didn't you stay in your room?" Elijah barks at me as he and the humanoid looking thing start fighting.
